Where you grip the axe handle is extremely important and it will enable you to develop an explosive technique. Your grip will allow you to minimise energy use in your reverse swing but then allow you to deploy full energy into the down swing.
With your grip fine tuned you can very quickly learn to develop your technique. Swing delivery will vary across everyone but ensuring a correct stance and torso movement will enable you to generate maximum power when making contact with the log.
You will learn to focus on the log and identify where to aim your swing. Working your log cut in a 'V' shape is the aim of the game.
Absolutely loved my first session. Who knew you could get so much satisfaction from smashing a piece of wood to bits! (Wish I'd left the gloves on like I was told to though - damn blister)
Well that was certainly different. I didn't know what to expect coming into this but really glad I tried it and will make this a regular activity alongside my regular gym membership. Great work guys.
Attended the pre-opening with my partner and did a solid hour on the overhead chop discipline. All I can say is what a workout and I managed to get through the log. Thoroughly enjoyed myself and will look to make this a fortnightly visit. Really recommend.
